TRANSPORTATIONS TO ST.PETERSBURG
1. By air There is only one
airport in the city with 2 terminals – one only for international flights, the
other – mostly for domestic destinations and cities of the former USSR. No
special transportation links between the terminals – a warning for those
changing flights. International flights available for all major European
capitals and important airports (daily for London, Paris, Stockholm,
Helsinki, Amsterdam, 3 daily flights for Frankfurt, budget flights by Air Berlin
and German Wings). There are dozens of daily flights to Moscow to
different airports (located up to a hundred kilometers from each other) – so be
sure to check exact destination in case of changing flights there.
2. By railway Two daily trains
to/from Helsinki with the easiest way of crossing the border – all passport and
customs formalities being carried out on the way. Travelling time –
about 6 hours – to be reduced in the nearest future. There
are dozens of daily trains to/from Moscow. The easiest way to get there is to
use a sitting train leaving at 6.30 p.m. – in less than 5 hours you will reach
Moscow. Night trains – less convenient. You are provided with bed linen in
sleeping compartments (for 2 in 1st class and 4 in 2nd class) – but travelling
time is not enough for a good rest. The best of night trains leave about
midnight - ##1, 3, 5 from St.Petersburg and
2, 4, 6 from Moscow.
3. By bus There are daily buses
for Riga, Helsinki, Tallinn; connections to
Tampere are available 3 times a week – as well as individual
transfers to and from any Finnish destinations on request.
